Volterra is place to visit for its history therefore no boxes to tick in question abouve. The Nazionale is well placed near the entrance to the old walled town with parking underground nearby. Everywhere in the twon can be reached easily on foot making it a good place to stay to explore the rich Etruscan, Roman and medieval history. The hotel is modest but adequate.
The rooms are not large though adequate but fresh brewed coffee, more fresh fruit and non-powdered fruit juice at breakfast would have raised the quality of the Nazionale a little.

Location: around the corner from Piazza dei Priori. Hotel staff: they immediately confiremed my reservation and answered my request: a room with balcony and early check-in. Room was spacious, comfortable and with a very nice view.

This hotel exceeded my expectations with its central location in the heart of Volterra. We were able to explore the city easily, and it was incredibly convenient to have shops and attractions right at our doorstep. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the lady at reception in the mornings. The room was clean and tidy, with a great view over the nearby rooftops. Plus, the breakfast provided a good start to the day.
While there were no major issues, there was one small aspect that could be improved upon.

The location is perfect if you want to be within the walled city. Basic, but very clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

We travelled by car from France & found Volterra to be good centre to visit the region.We ourselves, with the help of the excellent tourist to visit all the main sites in Volterra & immediate area on our first day. The second we did the same in San Gignanano. On our final full day we went to Siena.
The main drawback is the parking problem. Volterra has an underground car 50 mts from the Nazionale but it is very expensive & effectively increase the cost of our stay by 20%
